How many times have you conducted an Advisory Board meeting – only to discover after it was done that the Advisors never discussed what they had been brought together to discuss?
Odds are that your answer is: “All too often!”
I’ve had a great deal of experience with these and similar meetings, and what I’ve discovered is that no amount of agenda development, content preparation, and rehearsal of the meeting Chair and designated physician Moderators can protect against a lack of control during the actual meeting.
As you’ve probably seen all too often, the very distinguished Chair of the meeting, or attendee physicians designated as Moderators, tend to enjoy sitting around and schmoozing with their colleagues about topics they find very interesting – but which have little or nothing to do with the agenda. By the time anyone notices that many of the main discussion points have been ignored, it’s time to leave for the airport.
So: If you would like the Advisors at your next meeting to discuss the assigned topics – if you would like the transcript of your next Ad Board meeting to contain the information you want, and for which you’ve flown in these people from around the world – call me. In addition to development of the agenda and content, and recruitment and preparation of the faculty, I can moderate the meeting so that the discussion focuses on all of the desired points.
My guarantee (or, at least, my strong assertion) is: Noone will leave that table until the participants have presented what we’ve asked them to present and discussed the points we’ve invited them to discuss.
